The homeowner was striving for a cohesive look, but the under-scale coffee table, pale pillows, and limited wall art were working against it. Now, with a larger coffee table pulled from another room, the addition of colorful art and table decor (also retrieved from other rooms in the home), and newly re-covered pillows and ottoman (homeowner did this herself), a vibrant room is the striking result.

The scattered art lost any impact it could make, and it was hung too high. The trunk at the end of the bed was covered with piles of clothing and shoes. The large piece hanging above the bed was lowered, the “floating” photo on the wall on the right was removed, the accessories on the night table were pared down, the trunk on the end of the bed was cleared off, and the collection of pillows were collected from other rooms to create a serene look.

This lovely dining room had no impact; the green chair pads were too informal for the rest of the room. The two lamps were too large for the table they were placed on. The chair pads were removed and a vignette was created on the center of the dining table. A small chest – found in the homeowner’s garage – replaced the table on the right, and was accessorized by a simple orchid. A creative way to display art is seen in the corner – a lovely painting sits on a tripod frame.
